Custom Wedding Invitation Timeline|Sincerely Heidi

Updated: Feb 28

Planning a significant event, whether it's a wedding, birthday celebration, or corporate gathering, involves countless details. One critical element is the invitations.

Custom Wedding Invitations vs. Generic Wedding Invitations

Why choose Custom

Custom invitations set the tone for your event and reflect your unique style and the theme you envision. They are a powerful way to impress your guests and establish the vibe and atmosphere of the big day. Custom invitations create excitement and offer your guests their first glimpse of what to expect at your event. By collaborating closely with a skilled stationer, you will design invitations that resonate with your guests and capture the essence of your occasion.  But when should you place your order for these special invites?

Ideal Timing for Ordering Wedding Invitations

When to order the wedding invitations is definitely one of the top three questions for every bride, and for good reason. Custom invitation designers and stationers follow a different timeline compared to standard or generic invitations. Due to the numerous factors involved in designing and producing custom invitations, it's crucial to start early to ensure we have enough time and resources to capture your unique vision. At Sincerely Heidi, we suggest starting 9 – 12 months in advance.  However, 6- 9 months is generally a workable timeline. Ultimately, as soon as you secure your venue and determine your vibe, let’s start working to create that reality.

Custom Invitation Timeline, Month by Month

9 – 12 months before the wedding date, secure your venue and research stationers

Begin by researching potential stationers. Review their portfolios, read customer feedback, and consider their pricing. Request samples to evaluate the quality of their work. This step is essential to find a stationer who aligns with your vision and budget.

7-9 Months Before: Guest List Preparation

With your stationer selected, focus on compiling your guest list and collecting mailing addresses. At Sincerely Heidi, we supply a formatted spreadsheet to easily compile your guests' names and addresses.  We will use this document for Digital printing or Calligraphy for envelope addressing.

6 Months Before: Finalize Details

Now is also the time to discuss specialty printing techniques like letterpress or foil stamping. Specialty envelopes, laser-cut folders, and putting the product in motion.  Aim to finalize your design and wording by the end of this month.

Custom Invitations Order Timeline

For Day-Of pieces, like menu details, place cards, and seating charts, these often cannot be finalized until 4 – 6 weeks before the wedding, as they will depend on RSVP responses and guest counts.  At this point, your stationery designer will collaborate with you or your planner to ensure all details, including program layouts and place cards, are ironed out.

The Mailing Process

Ideally, you should send out invitations 8 – 10 weeks before your event. For destination weddings, consider mailing invites 10 – 12 weeks in advance to allow guests ample time to make travel arrangements.

The timeline for ordering custom invitations is crucial for ensuring a flawless event planning experience. Starting the process as far as possible before your occasion allows you to collaborate with your stationer, consider all details, and set the perfect tone for your event.

Whether you're preparing for a unique wedding or a stylish corporate affair, investing time in custom invitations will pay off. Contact us today for personalized assistance in creating your ideal invite!
